If you are considering a massage for the first time you may have a few questions. This page is here to hopefully help answer those questions and give you an understanding of massage therapy.

|
When I first meet you, I will ask you to fill out an client intake form or you may fill the form out in advance from my website. The client intake form alerts me to any medical issues that I need to be aware of. Also, with each visit I can keep track of what areas I treated and how you responded. This helps me provide much more effective treatments if you have a painful area. During our conversation I will try to get an understanding of what you want from the massage. If you have never had a massage before you may not be sure what you want. Don't worry. With just a few questions we will come up with a goal based on your answers.

The massage you get will not be a cookie cutter production line massage found in many discount massage chains. If you don't have any areas on your body that cause pain or tightness that brings itself to your attention throughout the day, then I would suggest a more general massage that consists of mostly a soothing Swedish massage blended with Deep tissue to not only relax you, but also open any areas that you didn't realize were tight or restricted. The goal of this type of massage would be to relax and escape. You may find yourself dozing off or drifting in a state between awareness and sleep.

If during our conversation, you tell me that you have an area that causes pain throughout the day that interferes with your ability to work, exercise or even relax then I would suggest a massage that is more specific. Neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release and trigger point therapy would be the types of massage I would incorporate into your treatment. With these types of massage I will isolate and treat the painful tissues, but more importantly I will find the tissues that are actually causing the area of complaint to be painful. If specific massage is applied correctly, during your session you will not feel anything more than moderate discomfort.

|
Moderate discomfort is when you feel a small amount of discomfort, but the pressure feels really good and your body is relaxed and not reacting to my touch. I have had many clients that actually find Neuromuscular therapy to be more relaxing and pleasurable than a more general type of massage such as Swedish. As I treat the dysfunctional tissues you will feel relief from the pain and will become much more relaxed now that your nervous system is not overloaded with pain signals.
